Writing For Engineering

Throughout this course, I have achieved all of the desired course learning outcomes. The assignment of the formal letter of introduction allowed me to negotiate my writing goals and audience expectations regarding genre conventions due to the assignment having an assigned genre for the assignment to be completed in. The memorandum allowed me to formulate and articulate a stance though and in my writing by making me choose a topic and then support my idea to improve my topic. This assignment also engages in genre analysis and multimodal composing to explore effective writing across disciplinary contexts and beyond by giving a real-world situation where a document of a certain type would be used. The next assignment, which was the technical description, allowed me to acknowledge others range of linguistic differences as resources due to the large range in audience members to expect for a technical description and accounting for all of those in my writing to increase accessibility. In addition, the technical description gave me the practice to enhance my strategies for reading, drafting, revising, and editing of my own work as well as the work of my peers by the way of peer and self-assessment. The following assignment which was the lab report taught me to practice using various library resources, online databases, and to use the internet to locate sources appropriate to my writing projects because I needed sources to include in my background to form and articulate my hypothesis. This project also supported me to strengthen my sources by forcing me to justify my stance the reasons for my thought process and the conclusion I reached. Finally, the last assignments, the research proposal, and presentation used all of the skills that I built and formed in the past assignments. These last two assignments required me to use all of the prior skills to form a sound piece with a group based on real-world data and predictions for the future.
