Memorandum

To: Dr. Vincent Boudreau, the President of the City College of New York From: Shazad Outar, Student at the City College of New York Date: February 13, 2019 Re: Improvement for the City College of New York campus

As you may already know the campus of City College is massive, with many buildings in a very large area and with many students having class in many of those buildings. I would like to request the addition of an extra tool to be provided for the students and faculty to fix a problem that many at City College are faced with. The problem being people who are unable to find where to go.To fix this problem I have a request for something that might fix this problem.

I request the addition of a interactive map for the campus and for it to be found on the school website. Currently there is already a campus map; however, the map currently available can be improved by making it an interactive online map instead. When I use the term interactive I am referring to the user’s ability to control the map and use the map to guide the user through the campus with ease. In addition, to further improve the map, having the maps extend to go into the various buildings would allow enhanced usability and greatly increase the usefulness of this tool.

The reasons for a tool like this to be developed are simply it would be useful, cheap, and effective. This tool would be useful to allow and students and faculty to accurately plan and adjust schedules by allowing users to gain a better understanding of the campus and the locations of areas and departments ahead of time. This would be particularly useful to incoming students or faculty, faculty that may not be at the City College of New York very often, or even anyone who would just like to see room locations without having to make a physical trip to the campus. This tool would also be cheap because there is already a City College of New York website and this website already has an area for a campus map so the interactive map could just go above the map already in place giving people an option of the type of map they want. Finally, this tool would be effective because it would be an online tool so there is no risk of having to deal with a physical project with could easily be lost or damaged.

I look forward to receiving a response from you, the president of City College, to provide feedback on this project idea and to see how the project develops. This project is one that is worth looking into to vastly improve the lives of not only current students and faculty, but also the lives of future faculty student and staff too.
